THE PROS:
The BD-D5300 is the cheapest player in its 2011 line-up. Offering stellar HD images and sound quality with a surprising amount of extra features for an entry-level player. Samsung’s new ‘SmartTV’ features has access to hundreds of online apps and services like Netflix, Blockbuster, Hulu Plus YouTube, DLNA capability and much more. It has two USB ports, Ultra-fast Play and you can connect to the internet via Ethernet port or go wireless.
THE CONS:
The entry-level DD-D5300 does not have the complete Smart Hub interface. A wireless LAN Adapter will be required for those who want a wireless internet connection. Unfortunately the LAN adapter is not included. You will also need a USB memory stick (at least 1 GB), to download any BD-Live content. Lack of any analog multichannel outputs or component video outputs. ** Because of restrictions from movie studios, more and more players are being released without component video outputs.
THE FINAL WORD:
The low cost of the BD-D5300 should appeal to many consumers. Especially given the amount of extra features the player has. And like all players, no matter what the cost, it will bring you great 1080p pictures on Blu-ray discs and up-scaling of standard DVDs. The only large drawback is you will have to purchase a LAN adapter if you want a wireless connect, which will increase the cost value. However, if this is not an issue for you, than the BD-D5300 Blu-ray player is a solid option. — Price you should look for when purchasing — Under $100.00
