THE PROS: The Oppo BDP-83SE is based on the award winning Universal Oppo BDP-83 Blu-ray Player. So it has all the great features of that player. It is a Universal Blu-ray Player that can handle playing Blu-ray, DVD, SACD, DVD-Audio and CD. The BDP-83SE has full 1080p/24 video playback on Blu-ray Discs, providing you with ex cellent HD imagae quality. It comes with 7.1 analog outputs, internal; audio decoding and bitstream output of Dolby True HD and DTS-HD MA. It is a Profile 2.0 with 1GB of internal memory and two USB ports. The Oppo BDP-83SE is upgraded with an all new analog audio stage and improved power supply, over the BDP-83.
THE CONS: More expensive than the BDP-83, with the only improvements coming in the analog outputs. The BDP-83SE does not have any Online Streaming Media Services such as Netflix or Vudu.
THE FINAL WORD: The Oppo BDP-83SE Blu-ray Player, with a price list of $899.00, is still considerable cheaper than the higher end Blu-ray Players. And its improved performance, through its analog audio outputs, allows it to compete with higher priced players. OPPO Digital strongly recommends the BDP-83 Special Edition Blu-ray Player to be used by customers who primarily use the analog audio output to connect to either a dedicated stereo or a multi-channel surround system. Customers who normally use the HDMI output to connect to an A/V receiver or directly to a TV/projector, and for customers who normally use the optical/coaxial digital audio output, the standard BDP-83 is recommended. The Oppo BDP-83 is $400 cheaper — Price you should look for when purchasing — Under $899.00
