Video Quality:
The BDP-S770 has the latest HDMI Output, version 1.4. This will provide you with 1080p/24 playback with standard 2D Blu-ray and 3D Blu-ray Discs. The new 1.4 HDMI does not mean you have to go out and purchase a new HDMI cable. If you already have a High Speed HDMI cable, this will be sufficient to transfer the 3D signal to your TV. Of course to display 3D images, you will require a 3D HDTV and a pair of 3D glasses.

Other video connections include Component Video Outputs and Composite Video Outputs. Features like 24p True Cinema, 1080p video up-conversion, up-scaling standard DVDs to HD levels, Noise Reduction and x.v.Color™ Technology will provide you with flawless picture quality. Audio Quality:
With amazing visuals, you need amazing audio. The BDP-S770 brings you internal audio decoding of the latest HD “lossless surround sound”, Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD MA. It can transfer these HD audio formats in their native bitstream form to you A/V receiver for decoding. However, this has to be done through the HDMI connection, as the BDP-S770 does not have multi-channel Analog Outputs. Not the ideal situation for those with older A/V receivers without a HDMI input. It does have 2.0-ch Analog Outputs, as well as Digital Audio Outputs: Optical and Coaxial. The BDP-S770 should be able to provide you with unbelievable surround sound as good as the studio’s master recording. It even supports the playback of Super Audio CD (SACD).

Like all good Blu-ray Players, the BDP-S770 is equipped with a great set of features to go along with its Blu-ray dics playback. It is a Profile 2.0 player that supports BD-Live content. BD-Live content can be access on certain Blu-ray Discs and then downloaded from the internet to your player. The BDP-S770 has an Ethernet Port and built-in Wi-Fi to give you easy access to the internet and BD-Live content. It has 1GB of internal storage memory, so downloading BD-Live content or updating firmware should not be a problem. It you require extra storage, there are two USB ports that can be used for this purpose. The USB Port can also be used for your videos, photos or music by connecting your digital camera, MP3 player or USB Flash Drive.

Once connected to the internet you can take advantage of Sony’s Bravia Internet Video. It will allow you to stream a variety of movies, TV shows, videos and music from online media services such as Netflix®, Amazon on Demand, YouTube™, Pandora ™, Slacker® and many more. The player even uses an Entertainment Database Browser, powered by Gracenote Meadata Services, to provide you with instant detailed information about the movies you are watching. Quality from these online streaming videos can vary, so to improve the overall picture of online streaming, the BDP-S770 has the I/P Noise Reduction feature. Giving you crisp, clear images from streaming content.

Other features include Share Personal Entertainment (DLNA). Once connected to your Home Network, you can access music, videos and photos from any DLNA certified device, like your computer or phone, and display it on your TV. Weighing 5 lbs. and 2 inches in height, the BDP-S770 is one of the larger Blu-ray Players compared with most of the newer models. THE PROS:
The Sony BDP-S770 Blu-ray Player is capable of HD 3D playback of Blu-ray movies. It is also capable of 1080p/24 playback with standard 2D Blu-ray Movies. It has internal audio decoding for Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD MA and supports bitstream output for these HD formats as well. The players other great features include Built-in Wi-Fi, DLNA support, BRAVIA Internet Video and Qriocity for Online Media Streaming. The BDP-S770 is a Profile 2.0 player so it supports BD-Live content and has 1GB of internal memory for downloading data.

THE CONS:
The Blu-ray Player lacks multi-channel analog audio outputs. Those who have an older, non-HDMI, A/V receiver, and want to decode the HD audio formats externally, will be out of luck. 3D content is still rare and you will require a 3D HDTV and 3D glasses to view 3D images. There is no SD Card Slot.
