Because of its unique design, Sharp had to sacrifice some of the traditional controls and features found on most players. For example, there is no display screen on the player. This extremely slim player (just 36mm in height) is all about saving space. The BD-HP90U can be mounted to the wall using the 75mm VESA mount and be placed right next to your HDTV. There is also a stand for horizontal and vertical operation.

VIDEO QUALITY:

Other features Sharp had to forgo is with the player’s Video and Audio connections. Only a HDMI Output is provided. Assuming most consumers will purchase this player to be used with a 3D HDTV. This should not be a problem, since 3D requires a HDMI connection. It provides Full HD 1080p/24 fps video output on both Blu-ray and 3d Blu-ray discs. And it is equipped with the AQUOS PURE MODE, which optimized your Blu-ray Discs to provide the best possible viewing experience. ( A Sharp AQUOS LCD panel Required)

AUDIO QUALITY:

There is an OPTICAL DIGITAL AUDIO OUT terminal, but the HDMI Output will be the main Audio connection for most users. The latest audio high-resolution formats are supported – Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD MA decoding 7.1-ch via HDMI. These formats can also be transferred externally, in their native bit-stream, via HDMI to your A/V receiver to decode.

BD-HP90U Features

Other features of the BD-HP90U include built-in Wireless and Ethernet Port to easily connect to the internet. Giving you access to BD-Live content and Online Streaming Content such as Netflix, Vudu, and Pandora. There is a USB Port for playing back DIVX HD, JPEG and MP3 files. The BD-HP90U is also equipped with the AQUOS LINK™ Function (integrates various Sharp’s A/V devices) and a RS-232C port.

THE PROS: The Sharp BD-HP90U Blu-ray Player has great image and audio quality. Providing you with Full HD 1080p/24 fps Video Output. And internal decoding and bit-stream output for Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD MA audio formats. It also supports the latest 3D technology, allowing you to playback 3D Blu-ray Discs. It has Built-in Wi-Fi giving you easy access to BD-Live content and Online Streaming Services. It has support for Netflix, Vudu and Pandora. A RS-232C Port is available if you want to use Custom Control Devices with the BD-HP90U Blu-ray Player.
THE CONS: The BD-HP90U player does not have any analog audio outputs, Component Outputs or Composite Outputs. This may make connecting the player difficult for those with older audio and video devices without HDMI inputs. 3D content is still rare and you will require a 3D HDTV and 3D glasses to view 3D images. The player has no internal memory, therefore an external USB memory device is needed to download BD-Live content.
THE FINAL WORD: The Sharp BD-HP90U Blu-ray Player has many great features. Providing Full HD 3D 1080p video output with the latest audio HD formats. Built-in Wi-Fi and RS-232C connections, along with Online Streaming Media Services. It has a very unique design, providing you with many design and lay out options. It is one of only a few Blu-ray Player that is wall mountable. There is even a stand that will allow you to set the player up horizontally or vertically. Like most of Sharps Blu-ray Players, the BD-HP90U is best when it is paired with other Sharp devices like the AQUOS® Quattron 3D LCD TV. Online-Streaming-Media-Services
In 2011 we are seeing a trend that started to emerge a couple of years ago. And that is consumers moving away from traditional physical media to online streaming digital content. This may signal bad news for the blu-ray format. But instead of fighting the trend, most Blu-ray Players have embraced it. Making the Blu-ray player as much about online streaming media services, as it is about playing high-definition discs.
