The flagship player for Panasonic’s 2011 Blu-ray Line-up, the DMP-BDT310, boast Full HD 3D support, lots of online streaming options, built-in WI-FI, dual HDMI ports and a host of other great extra features. Of course it is not all good news, the DMP-BDT310 comes with a hefty price tag and some of its features do not always pan out the way they are intended; like its 2D to 3D conversion. However, these feature concerns are minor, and if you have the budget to dish out for the high cost, the DMP-BDT310 is a solid choice and comes highly recommended.

Continuing the trend of sleek, stylish players, the DMP-BDT310 has a slimmed down designed, with a black finish and a flip-down front panel containing basic control buttons. It also holds the USB and SD Card ports; so if you are using a USB device, remember that the front panel will have to stay down. Because of this the DMP-BDT310 loses some of its stylish appeal. One unique feature found on the player is a new touch free sensor that opens the disc tray. All you need do is wave your hand over the top of the device and the disc tray opens up. It takes about 3 seconds. Great if you are in the dark or your hands are full with popcorn.

The DMP-BDT310 is easy to use and should not present any setup problems. It is one of the fastest players on the market today with lightening fast disc loading and operational speeds. The main menu is simple in its lay-out and only a few button pushes is required to take you any where you want to be. The remote control is another simple but effective lay-out. Providing buttons for quick access to features such as Viera Cast, 3D settings and Skype, etc.

VIDEO QUALITY:
Picture quality for 3D blu-rays and standard blu-rays are excellent. It produces clean and sharp images, with vibrant, natural colors. It is equipped with video features like the Enhanced Full HD Up Sampling (New P4HD), Digital Noise Reduction, and Adaptive Chroma Processing to help bring the best possible picture from blu-rays and DVDs. The DMP-BDT310 also has a UniPhier Chip, this helps create a clearer and sharper image quality while at the same time lowering the player’s consumption of power. Overall, the DMP-BDT310 is designed to provide stunningly brilliant 3D and 2D images, and it delivers. (Remember to view 3D images you require to have a 3D TV and 3D glasses)

AUDIO QUALITY:
Having exceptional video performance, the DMP-BDT310 has made sure it produces great surround sound to accompany the excellent images. It can decode and bit-stream output the latest audio formats – DTS™-HD Master Audio Essential/ DTSTM-HD High Resolution Audio. Sound is helped by features like the HDMI Pure Audio which decreases the noise and creates natural bass sound quality. Resulting in a truly immersive sound experience. There are no 7.1-ch analog outputs for the DMP-BDT310, so you will need a A/V receiver with a HDMI input to take advantage of the high-resolution surround sound.

However, because of the two HDMI outputs on the player, you do not need to upgrade your A/V receiver to handle 3D Blu-rays. One of the reason for the high price tag of the DMP-BDT310 is that it comes equipped with dual HDMI Outputs. This will allow you to connect a video signal to your TV and a separate second audio signal to your A/V receiver. So you can view 3D movies with great hi-res surround sound.

To further control how you view 3D images, the Panasonic has included other 3D features such as 3D Effect Controller and 2D-3D conversion. The 3D Effect Controller will let you select the depth of 3D images. While 2D to 3D conversion is exactly what it sounds like, it will convert 2D DVD and blu-ray images to 3D. The results of 3D converting can be varying and will not be the same as watching real 3D content.

Panasonic-FeaturesOther features of the DMP-BDT310 included online services such as Skype, Netflix, Vudu, Amazon VOD, Pandora, Picasa, YouTube, Twitter and many more. Access to these internet services is made easy with its built-in WI-FI, it also has an Ethernet Port if you do not want to go wireless. The DMP-BDT310 is DLNA certified, so it can stream videos, music and photos from your computer. Or you can playback these files on a USB device. Files supported include DivX HD, MKV, MP3, JPEG, WMV and AVCHD. There is no built-in memory for BD-Live content so a USB or SD Card memory device will be needed, at least 1GB.

THE PROS: The DMP-BDT310 is Panasonic’s flagship Blu-ray Player for 2011. It has produces excellent images and sound with a host of extra features. It is capable of 1080p video playback on blu-rays and 3D blu-rays and can up-scale DVDs. It has new and easy to navigate user interface, allowing you quick access to Viera Cast and its many online streaming services such as Netflix, YouTube and much more. The DMP-BDT310 has added Skype so you can talk to your family and friends. Other features include very fast loading speeds, built-in WI-FI, USB playback, DLNA support and dual HDMI Outputs.
THE CONS: The Panasonic DMP-BDT310’s Viera Cast does not offer Hulu Plus and MLB.TV, so it is not as comprehensive as other online media portals. Has a higher price tag than most players, the Panasonic DMP-BDT210 is a very similar player, minus the dual HDMI ports, and is $30.00 cheaper. The 2D to 3D conversion seems to be an unnecessary gimmick because it can be found on most 3D HDTVs.
THE FINAL WORD: The Panasonic DMP-BDT310 is an excellent Blu-ray Player. If you can get past the higher price tag or if you want a player with dual HDMI outputs, then this maybe one of the best players you can purchase in 2011. It is one of the fastest loading players, with a simple and easy to use interface that provides quick access to online streaming services. Overall, the DMP-BDT310 is getting positive reviews from both experts and consumers. It seems to be a solid choice amongst the batch of blu-ray players released in 2011. >b> — Price you should look for when purchasing — Under $250.00
