When the LG debuted the BD390 last year it was still only one of a handful of Blu-ray Players to incorporate Online Streaming Media Services. LG was one of the first to realize this trend and knew that just playing a Blu-ray Disc was not enough. So LG took its flagship Blu-ray Player, the BD390, and incorporated not only online streaming capability, but top of the line Video and Audio quality, and an unbelievable set of features. Including Built-in 802.11n Wi-Fi, 7.1 analog outputs, MKV-video file playback via USB, 1GB of on-board memory and much more. Making the BD390 not only one the Best Blu-ray Players on the market, and setting a standard for all other Blu-ray Player to be compared too.

The BD390 has a conservative design and look with a glossy black front panel. It has a large and easy to read LCD Display that is located in the center. Controls for playback and a USB port are on the front left of the player. The Remote Control is simple and easy to use, as is the user interface menu. You are given seven options to choose from: Movie, Photo, Music, My Media, Netflix, YouTube, CinemaNow, and Setup. Providing quick and easy access to all the player’s features and functions.




Video Quality:
You can connect the video through the HDMI (Version1.3a), the Component Outputs or the Composite Outputs. All of which located on the back of the player. It provides excellent image quality when playing back Blu-ray discs. Images appear rich with color, crisp and sharp looking. Images that are moving have very limited jaggies or distortions. The same goes for playing DVDs. With the help of its 2:3 pull-down processing, play back of your old DVDs should look better than ever before.

Audio Quality:
The BD390 has internal audio decoding for Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio. What this means is that it can decode these High Definition formats to be played back on almost every Audio/Video receiver that has a HDMI Port. It supports bitstream output if you want the decoding done by your Audio/Video receiver. There is also 7.1 analog outputs for those with older Audio/Video receivers without a HDMI port. So you can hear Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio at full resolution. Optical and coaxial options are available, along with analog stereo output. You basically are given almost every possible Audio and Video connection with the BD390.




This includes both an Ethernet Port and Built-in Wi-Fi (802.11n – it will support slower 802.11b/g networks) to connect to the internet. Once connected to the internet you can access the Online Streaming Media Services to get movies, music, photos and more. Services such as Netflix, Vudu, YouTube, and CinemaNow. With the player connected to the internet you can also take advantage of BD-Live Content and DLNA feature.

The BD390 is a Profile 2.0 player. Meaning you can access BD-Live content that is available on some Blu-ray Discs. It is usually made up of downloaded content such as, deleted scenes, movie trailers, online games, movie trivia, live commentary and much more. The BD390 has 1 GB of internal memory, so downloading this content is a lot easier then using a external USB memory device. Connect the player to your Home Network is another benefit the BD390 has that you can take advantage of. When you connected to your Home Network you can stream media from a networked connected computer to your TV.

If you do not want to stream movies you can use the USB port to play movies. The BD390 has a wide range of media formats that it is capable of playing through the USB Port. Video, music and photos files that are in any of the following format is supported: MP3, JPEG, PNG, AVI, WMA, DivX-HD, XVID, and MKV. Last but not least, the BD390 boot up and disc loading speeds are very fast. You will not have to wait long to start enjoying all the features of the BD390.

THE PROS: With the LG-BD390, you get an unbelievable combination of excellent image quality, great features, and extremely fast loading times. It has networking in the form of Built-in 802.11n Wi-Fi. Allowing for Netflix, YouTube, Vudu and CinemaNow online streaming. The LG-BD390 is a Profile 2.0 Blu-ray DVD Player with internal audio decoding for Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio, 7.1 analog outputs, 1GB of internal memory.
THE CONS: It costs a little more than its competitors without offering any extra features. It is comparable in price to the PlayStation 3.
THE FINAL WORD: Given its high excellent image quality, extremely fast loading speed and a great feature set, the LG-BD390 simply put, is one of the best stand alone Blu-ray DVD Players. Price you should look for when purchasing — Under $400.00
