Those who own a Blu-ray Player know the benefits they get from this High Definition format. But there a millions out there still clinging to their old DVD Player, unwilling to make the change. But eventually change will have to come. Most industry experts believe Blu-ray will totally eclipse the DVD within the next few years. The reason they believe this is because the Blu-ray Player can do everything the DVD Player can do. But with the Blu-ray Player you get so many more added benefits.
One big misconception that is hindering people from discovering the benefits of the Blu-ray Format, is the cost. In the past Blu-ray Players and Blu-ray Movies were a lot more expensive then DVD Players and DVD Movies. This is not the case today. Granted, on average, the price of a Blu-ray Player is still higher than a DVD Player. But the price of an average Blu-ray Player has gone down considerably. To purchase a Mid-Level Blu-ray Player the price would be about $200 to $250. Entry level players cost any where from $100 to $150. If you really want a bargan and do your research you can even find a good Blu-ray Player for under $100.
As for Blu-ray Movies, prices are continuously going down. Of course you do have the option of renting Blu-ray Movies. And perhaps purchasing them at a later date when the prices are lower. If you have large DVD collections and do not want to part with it, you do not have to. All Blu-ray Players are capable of playing DVDs. In fact they do not just play DVDs, they are capable of up scaling you standard DVD to near High Definition level. Allowing you to view your old DVDs in a whole new way.
While owning a HDTV is not necessary to use a Blu-ray Player. But if you own a 1080p capable HDTV, the only way to get this maximum High Definition is through a Blu-ray Player. DVD technology can not produce enough pixels for the high-resolution display and movies will actually look worse.
Even a low end Blu-ray Player will produce 1080p playback so you can take full advantage of your HDTV. Then there is the sound. Because Blu-ray Disc can hold a large amount of data, it is capable of producing High-resolution audio. Such as Dolby TrueHD and dts-HD Master Audio.
Another benefit of owning a Blu-ray Player is it’s ability to connect to the internet. Not all Blu-ray Players have this ability, but most Blu-ray Players that have come out since 2009 are Blu-ray Profile 2.0. This means they have either an Ethernet Port or support for Wi-Fi or both. Having a Blu-ray Player connected to the internet opens up a wide range of features and benefits. Features such as BD-Live Content, Online Streaming Media Services or DLNA support.
-
BD-Live Technology allows you to download and stream bonus content like extra or deleted scenes, film shorts, updated movie trailers, movie-based games, live commentary and much more.
- Online Streaming Media Services allows you to stream movies, TV Shows, music, photos and news directly to your TV. Services like Netflix, Amazon Video on Demand, Vudu, Pandora etc.
-
DLNA support allows you to synchronize your household network. A Blu-ray Player that has DLNA capability will let you stream from your computer any audio or video files directly to your HDTV.
These are the main benefits of owning a Blu-ray Player. With more benefits being added all the time. Features like 3D Technology, which is becoming increasingly popular with Home Movie Viewers. Therefore, whether you own a HDTV or a standard TV it does not make much sense to go out and purchase a DVD Player. You will be investing your money in outdated technology and missing out on all the great extra benefits that a Blu-ray Player offers.
